Title: Lust
Series: Shadow-Keepers Series #2
Author: Jas T. Ward
Genre: PNR/Fantasy Romance
Release Date: November 17, 2015
Welcome back to the world of the Grid. Where heroes and eaters of souls still walk among us. And a war rages with the prize being the existence of mankind, or its loss. Can a heart that is walled away never to love or trust find its beat in one that is needing someone to save it? And what happens when that salvation is blurred? McKenzie Miller had never needed anyone. Not since she lost both her parents to a crime of passion at a young age. Shuffled from foster home to foster home, Kenzie finally took control of her own life and lived on the streets. Now she's an adult and she has a hard-wired survivalist core to never be used or abused again. She's strong and no one will ever hurt her—until it took death to show her how to live and her heart how to beat. Lana had everything that her parent's money could buy and until they lost it all in the economy crash, but now the young ballet dancer had a bright future with the San Francisco Ballet Company. Now she struggles to reach for her dream and still survive. Until one night...

Kenzie was curled up on her side in the corner of her cell when the door opened. Not the small envelope sized one in the bottom of the thick metal and glass door they slid food she didn't eat through, but the whole door. She scrambled to sit, putting her back against the wall and held the plastic fork from the meal tray like a weapon. Her fingers shook as did her arm but was about all that she could pull off so it would have to do.

Reno paused as the door was locked behind him, his eyes going to the woman who was looking better but not completely healed. Madness did this ticklish sort of purr that vibrated inside him at the sight of her and that was bit discerning. But that seemed to be a constant—until this woman had been found, Reno had thought he was the only Shadow-Keeper too. Now, there were two.

Damn, that bastard did a real job on her. Take it easy, Candyman. I personally wasn’t planning on getting forked today. One has to prepare for sudden forkings. Now, if she had a spork? Whole ‘nother ballgame.

He whispered back to Sundown, “I know. Hush.”

Going to his haunches, he rubbed his hand along his jaw as he watched her from a distance as she stared him down, her eyes full of fear but also rebellion—not too surprising considering everything they knew about her now.

He had been surprised when Bounce had agreed to give him the next 36 hours alone with the woman, without interruption, to see if he could help her level and learn her powers. It had taken Reno months to figure those two items on the Keeper to-do list (remember that part about worse decision maker…ever?)

In exchange, Reno was to be a guinea pig—to answer questions, give lab samples and tell all he knew of being a Keeper. Heck, that wasn’t going to take long since he had only been one for a few months, but it was all he could come up with to buy the shaking, brave woman in front of him more time—a woman he was desperate to help survive. He wasn't even sure if he fully understood why, but he knew that he had to prove to Bounce and the others that Keepers had value to the Grid. That both he and now Kenzie deserved a place in the war to fight for the good side; even more so now that one of them was slated to be destroyed. And maybe, if he really asked himself, it might be nice to have another kindred being.

Even if that other being was looking at him like he needed to be destroyed too.

***I received a ARC for this book in exchange for a honest review***

Lust is something powerful, that can drive a relationship. This book is dark, suspenseful, sensual, and steamy goodness! The characters are H-O-T  and they actually have a backstory. What more could you want? I give this book five stars!
"I am the product of several realities making the whole: a troubled childhood, domestic violence survivor, homeless person, single mother and a suicide survivor. But in every single one of those realities, one thing remained true - my imagination.
Reading and writing were always my escape. It helped me deal with the harshness of my existence at the time and made me grateful for the escapism books gave me. Now, as a writer, I seek to give that gift back to someone that may need the same haven that saved my soul and my creativity as I once had."
Born and raised in Texas and spending time living in Kentucky, Ms. Ward spends her days and nights writing as therapy to handle the past. She is the proud parent of three very independent grown children and grandmother to three delightful grandchildren.
She has two furbabies that sit and ponder why their human is talking to herself late into the night as she writes out colorful and diverse if not twisted characters and tales.
Ms. Ward is founding author and published by Dead Bound Publishing.
