Genre: Contemporary Romance
In this raw, moving short novel for readers of Jill Shalvis, Molly O’Keefe, and Karina Halle, two kindred spirits share a winning lottery ticket—and discover what it really means to get lucky.
Holly Ward is stretched to the breaking point, raising her young son alone and working long hours for minimum wage at a local superstore. Sure, she’s noticed the new guy with the easy grin and warm brown eyes, but she’s learned the hard way that relationships aren’t worth the pain. Still, when he invites her to split a lottery ticket, she figures a little innocent fun couldn’t hurt. The last thing she expects is to score big, which is exactly what happens . . . in more ways than one.
From the moment he meets Holly, Ray Lopez is drawn to her quiet dignity and openhearted beauty. And when they hit the jackpot together, he’s thrilled that the single mom can give her kid a better life. The only problem is the chaos surrounding them: lawyers and reporters swarming, friends and family angling to get their cut. In all the chaos, Ray discovers an oasis of calm and passion in Holly. But with the stakes higher than ever, winning her trust could cost him everything.
Holly is a divorced, single mother, working for a store that's like Walmart or Costco.
Ray is working 2 jobs temporarily, at the same store as Holly and for a nice restaurant. He is originally from Queens, but after his mother died, months prior, he moved to a small town a few hours away, to pursue what his mother asked of him. It's what he thought he wanted to, to go to culinary school after his 6 months experience working for a restaurant.
Holly is totally devoted to her son, but she shares custody with her jerk ex husband. He puts her down, in front of her child and behind his new rich wife's back. Holly and Ray meet at work.
Ray is instantly attracted to her, but it takes Holly a little longer since her mind is in a fog from the divorce, a single mom, and working her butt off to provide for her family.
Ray talks to Holly one day at work and asks for a dollar to buy a power ball lotto ticket. He puts in the other dollar. He purchases it that day and 2 days later, they find out the two of them are the winners of $400 million plus.
From there, it's a whirlwind, love, lust, hatred, sadness, joy, suspense and the list goes on! If you One-Click anything in the immediate future, it has to be Rolling in the deep. This author is awesome and I can't wait to see what she writes next!
